THE PROGRAM

Goal: To provide teacher professional development in the use of technology in the classroom that focuses on improving the quality of teacher instruction and the level of student learning in the classroom.

Requirements of the program:

Co-payment from your school district of $1000 per team.

Attend one week institute (40 hour summer institute)

Each teacher or school team needs to create a Unit of Practice ( PDF Form for UOP) incorporating the use of technology to teach history.

Follow up hours: 80 hours of professional development (total of 120 hours)

You may do the following activities to fulfill those hours:

1. Attend the two follow up Saturdays (required)
2. Team collaboration on UOP
3. Personal time working on your UOP
4. Attending technology workshops that you are not paid to attend
5. Time spent on computer based training modules
6. Presenting technology workshops

You will be paid by the CSU Business Office a total of $1,000 in two $500 installments.
The first $500 stipend will be paid in December, 2001, when at least sixty hours are completed.

Mail Gil your follow-up hours form (PDF Form for follow-up hours)when you have completed your sixty hours by the November 20. Gil's address is:

The second $500 stipend will be paid in June, 2002, when the remaining sixty hours, unit of practice, and final CTAP assessment is completed.

All participants must take this CTAP assessment in order to meet the funding's requirement and to be paid. You will once again take this assessment in the spring when we are about to complete the program.

Workshops: Remember, you can achieve time for your follow-up hours by attending workshops about technology. With prior approval the project will reimburse your registration fee for the workshops. Just send your receipt to our director, Nancy McTygue, at the following address:

Workhops to look into:

1. CUE Conference (Computer-Using Educators) http://www.cue.org/
This is the annual conference that all tech educators look forward to. Give it a try. It's in Sacramento.
You can even register online. The project is willing to pay for half the registration fee.

Let us know through the listserv, if you get notice of any interesting tech worhshop to attend.

2. Check SCOE (Sacramento County Office of Education) and PCOE (Placer County Office of Education) for upcoming technology workshops. There are some great workshops offered.

Spring Follow-up dates (Saturdays)

Our follow-up for the spring will be on the following dates:

Team One will meet on April 27, Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Team Two will meet on May 4, Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Place: Roseville City School district tech lab on 1000 Darling Way, Roseville. Get MAP

Purpose of the meeting:
Each person / team must be ready to share and turn in their Unit of Practice.

Agenda:
1. Self evaluation of your Unit of Practice
2. Group evaluation of your UOP
3. Each member will have 5 minutes to present his or her UOP
4. Evaluations
5. Concluding CTAP assessment (don't forget your password for your account)
6. If time permits, more PowerPoint skills and other web sites to visit.

Remember:
1. Bring four copies of your UOP for evaluation purposes
2. Bring a CD or disk with your UOP on it.
3. Your final follow-up hours documented (see the form)
4. You must show up in order to receive your second payment.
5. You must remain the entire time period.
6. Bring your laptop if you wish(remember, it's a mac lab)
7. Bring student work if you did your UOP
8. Bring your own lunch or eat outSnacks and coffee will be provided.

Your tech advisors will be there to present and support you.
